We place across Somvarpet and the wider Karnataka region. If a small bird does not suit your hours, we will say so — that conversation is free and saves everyone the harder one later.
Feeding a small bird without guesswork
Portion by weight and adjust monthly. The Dusky Lorikeet will tell you it is starving regardless; your vet's target weight is the honest signal. Overfeeding in the first year is the single most common thing we correct.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Week one: keep the bird to two rooms, same feeding times daily, no visitors. Week two: widen the space, start short outdoor trips once the vaccination schedule allows. Rushing either half is the most common mistake we see with a new Dusky Lorikeet.
Settling in with children and other pets
Give the resident pet the higher ground and the first choice of space. A new small bird entering an established household is the intruder, and letting the existing animal keep its status shortens the adjustment considerably.
Is a Dusky Lorikeet a sensible choice for you in Somvarpet?
Start with your week, not the breed. If you are out of the flat eleven hours a day, a family friendly Dusky Lorikeet will not fill the gap quietly - it will find something to do and you will not like it. If someone is home, this breed settles into Somvarpet without much drama.
Weather, coat and the Karnataka year
comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward For a Dusky Lorikeet that means grooming is not cosmetic - it is how you catch problems early. Ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat, and you will find the tick or the hot spot while it is still nothing.
What a Dusky Lorikeet costs in Somvarpet
Expect ₹62,167 upward. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the paperwork you were told to insist on. Budget separately for the first year's vet work.
What you will pay
Expect ₹62,167 upward, to around ₹62,167. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the records you should insist on. Budget separately for the first year — food, boosters and one unplanned vet visit will each outweigh the purchase over 5-15 Years.
Health and handover
Every Dusky Lorikeet is checked, vaccinated and dewormed before listing. Keep the paperwork somewhere you will find it in a year: booster schedules run from the original dates, and a small bird moving to a new vet needs that history intact.
Raising a Dusky Lorikeet in Somvarpet: local climate
The city sits at about 1,133 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 31°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Dusky Lorikeet that it is on the plains.
Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.
The rainy season runs from May to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are November to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 26 | 29 | 31 | 30 | 26 | 22 | 21 | 21 | 22 | 23 | 23 | 23 |
| Low °C | 12 | 14 | 16 | 18 | 18 | 18 | 17 | 17 | 16 | 16 | 15 | 13 |
| Rain mm | 2 | 5 | 22 | 64 | 188 | 697 | 759 | 569 | 335 | 226 | 90 | 16 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
