What a White Bellied Caique costs in Madikeri
Expect ₹59,147 upward. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the paperwork you were told to insist on. Budget separately for the first year's vet work.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Set the routine before you set the affection. Fixed meal times, a fixed sleeping spot, and a fixed person doing the feeding for the first fortnight. A White Bellied Caique reads consistency as safety, and a settled bird learns faster.
Is a White Bellied Caique a sensible choice for you in Madikeri?
Start with your week, not the breed. If you are out of the flat eleven hours a day, a family friendly White Bellied Caique will not fill the gap quietly - it will find something to do and you will not like it. If someone is home, this breed settles into Madikeri without much drama.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Check three things before you commit: whether your association permits a small bird, whether the service lift is usable, and what your floor is made of. Polished granite and a young White Bellied Caique are a bad pairing - put runners down before it arrives, not after the first slip.
Weather, coat and the Karnataka year
pleasant semi-tropical, and the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds Your practical takeaway: brush more often than the breed guides suggest, keep the bird dry through the wet months, and check between the pads after walks. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.
Feeding a small bird without guesswork
Match the food to the adult size, not the current one. A small breed grows into its requirement over months, and switching brands abruptly will upset it - phase any change over a week. Fresh water, changed twice daily, matters more than the brand you choose.
White Bellied Caique price, and the cost after it
₹59,147 to ₹59,147 for the bird. Then plan a similar amount again for year one. Anyone selling you a White Bellied Caique without mentioning that second number is selling rather than advising.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a White Bellied Caique in Madikeri: local climate
The city sits at about 1,141 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 31°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a White Bellied Caique that it is on the plains.
Winters are mild, with January nights around 12°C, so cold is not a concern.
The rainy season runs from May to October, and July is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new White Bellied Caique bird, the easiest months to arrive are November to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 26 | 29 | 31 | 30 | 26 | 22 | 21 | 21 | 22 | 23 | 23 | 23 |
| Low °C | 12 | 14 | 16 | 18 | 18 | 18 | 17 | 17 | 16 | 16 | 15 | 13 |
| Rain mm | 2 | 5 | 22 | 64 | 188 | 697 | 759 | 569 | 335 | 226 | 90 | 16 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
