We place across Idukki and the wider Kerala region. If a small dog does not suit your hours, we will say so — that conversation is free and saves everyone the harder one later.
Health records you should insist on
Insist on originals, not photographs. A genuine record for a Dachshund Puppy names the vet and carries dates you can verify. It is a two-minute check that separates a documented dog from an undocumented one.
Is a Dachshund Puppy a sensible choice for you in Idukki?
You are choosing a 10-12 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A small dog in a Idukki apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Your neighbours matter more than your floor plan. A family friendly Dachshund Puppy that greets the corridor politely buys you goodwill you will need later. Spend the first month on that and the rest of 10-12 Years is easier.
Weather, coat and the Kerala year
the sea-influenced humidity makes ventilation and dry bedding important For a Dachshund Puppy that means grooming is not cosmetic - it is how you catch problems early. Ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat, and you will find the tick or the hot spot while it is still nothing.
What a Dachshund Puppy costs in Idukki
Expect ₹15,221 upward. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the paperwork you were told to insist on. Budget separately for the first year's vet work.
Feeding a small dog without guesswork
Skip the table scraps entirely, however hard the dog lobbies. A Dachshund Puppy that learns the dining table is a food source will keep asking for 10-12 Years. Set that boundary in week one and you never have to revisit it.
What you will pay
Expect ₹15,221 upward, to around ₹15,221. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the records you should insist on. Budget separately for the first year — food, boosters and one unplanned vet visit will each outweigh the purchase over 10-12 Years.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a Dachshund in Idukki: local climate
Summer here peaks in March at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Dachshund: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.
Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.
The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.
For a new Dachshund puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 28 | 31 | 33 | 32 | 28 | 26 | 25 | 25 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 |
| Low °C | 17 | 18 | 20 | 21 | 22 | 21 | 20 | 20 | 20 | 20 | 19 | 18 |
| Rain mm | 12 | 24 | 47 | 107 | 217 | 334 | 291 | 245 | 231 | 312 | 171 | 38 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

Care Tips for Dachshund Puppy
Your week with a Dachshund Puppy, reduced to what actually matters.
- Grooming: ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat. You find the tick while it is still nothing.
- Damp: dry the dog properly in the wet months. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.
- Floors: runners over polished granite before it arrives, not after the first slip.
- Food: portion by weight, adjust monthly, no table scraps from day one.
- Balcony: grilles up before the Dachshund Puppy comes home.
