Your first fortnight, step by step

Do not introduce a small Shih Tzu to the whole building in week one. Let it learn your flat first. Everything else - lift, lobby, other residents - goes better when the dog already has one place it considers its own.

Feeding a small dog without guesswork

Match the food to the adult size, not the current one. A small breed grows into its requirement over months, and switching brands abruptly will upset it - phase any change over a week. Fresh water, changed twice daily, matters more than the brand you choose.

Apartment living: what actually matters

Your neighbours matter more than your floor plan. A playful Shih Tzu that greets the corridor politely buys you goodwill you will need later. Spend the first month on that and the rest of 10-16 Years is easier.

Is a Shih Tzu a sensible choice for you in Channapatna?

You are choosing a 10-16 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A small dog in a Channapatna apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.
