What is listed for Kotagiri is what we can place. Ask us before you decide: we would rather steer you to a different bird that fits your schedule than sell you the African Grey Parrot you asked for and hear about it in six months.
Feeding a medium bird without guesswork
Match the food to the adult size, not the current one. A medium breed grows into its requirement over months, and switching brands abruptly will upset it - phase any change over a week. Fresh water, changed twice daily, matters more than the brand you choose.
Weather, coat and the Tamil Nadu year
The year splits into a dry half and a wet half, and a medium bird notices both. the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention Adjust walk times in the heat and drying routine in the rain, and the African Grey Parrot will barely register the change.
Settling in with children and other pets
Teach the children the rules before the African Grey Parrot arrives: no disturbing it while eating, no picking it up, and let it come to them. Children who learn that get a bird that seeks them out.
Is a African Grey Parrot a sensible choice for you in Kotagiri?
You are choosing a 5-15 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A medium bird in a Kotagiri apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.
What a African Grey Parrot costs in Kotagiri
The purchase is the small number. Over 5-15 Years, food, boosters, grooming and one unplanned vet visit a year will each outweigh it. Anyone selling you a African Grey Parrot without mentioning that is selling, not advising.
Health records you should insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note. You should be able to read them before you pay. We provide all three with every African Grey Parrot; if any seller cannot, treat that as the answer.

₹67,146 to ₹67,146 for the bird. Then plan a similar amount again for year one. Anyone selling you a African Grey Parrot without mentioning that second number is selling rather than advising.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a African Grey Parrot in Kotagiri: local climate
The city sits at about 1,902 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 27°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a African Grey Parrot that it is on the plains.
Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 7°C. A light sweater helps a medium African Grey Parrot on the coldest nights.
Most of the year's rain falls in October. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new African Grey Parrot bird, the easiest months to arrive are April to May: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 21 | 24 | 27 | 26 | 24 | 20 | 19 | 20 | 20 | 20 | 19 | 19 |
| Low °C | 7 | 8 | 12 | 14 | 14 | 12 | 12 | 12 | 11 | 11 | 10 | 8 |
| Rain mm | 4 | 7 | 26 | 57 | 103 | 123 | 123 | 107 | 112 | 157 | 100 | 24 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

Care Tips for African Grey Parrot
Your week with a African Grey Parrot, reduced to what actually matters.
- Grooming: ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat. You find the tick while it is still nothing.
- Damp: dry the bird properly in the wet months. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.
- Floors: runners over polished granite before it arrives, not after the first slip.
- Food: portion by weight, adjust monthly, no table scraps from day one.
- Balcony: grilles up before the African Grey Parrot comes home.
