What is listed for Coonoor is what we can place. Ask us before you decide: we would rather steer you to a different bird that fits your schedule than sell you the Scarlet Macaw you asked for and hear about it in six months.
Health records you should insist on
Insist on originals, not photographs. A genuine record for a Scarlet Macaw names the vet and carries dates you can verify. It is a two-minute check that separates a documented bird from an undocumented one.
Weather, coat and the Tamil Nadu year
humid coastal, and the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention Your practical takeaway: brush more often than the breed guides suggest, keep the bird dry through the wet months, and check between the pads after walks. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.
Is a Scarlet Macaw a sensible choice for you in Coonoor?
You are choosing a 5-15 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A large bird in a Coonoor apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Your neighbours matter more than your floor plan. A family friendly Scarlet Macaw that greets the corridor politely buys you goodwill you will need later. Spend the first month on that and the rest of 5-15 Years is easier.
What a Scarlet Macaw costs in Coonoor
The purchase is the small number. Over 5-15 Years, food, boosters, grooming and one unplanned vet visit a year will each outweigh it. Anyone selling you a Scarlet Macaw without mentioning that is selling, not advising.
Settling in with children and other pets
Teach the children the rules before the Scarlet Macaw arrives: no disturbing it while eating, no picking it up, and let it come to them. Children who learn that get a bird that seeks them out.
Scarlet Macaw price, and the cost after it
₹298,026 to ₹298,026 for the bird. Then plan a similar amount again for year one. Anyone selling you a Scarlet Macaw without mentioning that second number is selling rather than advising.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a Scarlet Macaw in Coonoor: local climate
The city sits at about 1,746 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 28°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Scarlet Macaw that it is on the plains.
Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A light sweater helps a large Scarlet Macaw on the coldest nights.
Most of the year's rain falls in October. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new Scarlet Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are March, April, May, August and September: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 22 | 25 | 28 | 28 | 25 | 21 | 20 | 21 | 21 | 21 | 20 | 20 |
| Low °C | 8 | 10 | 13 | 15 | 15 | 13 | 13 | 13 | 12 | 12 | 11 | 9 |
| Rain mm | 4 | 7 | 26 | 57 | 103 | 123 | 123 | 107 | 112 | 157 | 100 | 24 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
