We place across Palakkad and the wider Kerala region. If a large bird does not suit your hours, we will say so — that conversation is free and saves everyone the harder one later.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Do not introduce a large Scarlet Macaw to the whole building in week one. Let it learn your flat first. Everything else - lift, lobby, other residents - goes better when the bird already has one place it considers its own.
Feeding a large bird without guesswork
Skip the table scraps entirely, however hard the bird lobbies. A Scarlet Macaw that learns the dining table is a food source will keep asking for 5-15 Years. Set that boundary in week one and you never have to revisit it.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Your neighbours matter more than your floor plan. A family friendly Scarlet Macaw that greets the corridor politely buys you goodwill you will need later. Spend the first month on that and the rest of 5-15 Years is easier.
Settling in with children and other pets
Teach the children the rules before the Scarlet Macaw arrives: no disturbing it while eating, no picking it up, and let it come to them. Children who learn that get a bird that seeks them out.
What a Scarlet Macaw costs in Palakkad
Between ₹298,026 and ₹298,026 covers most placements here. Where yours falls depends on lineage and how old the bird is at handover - an older, fully vaccinated Scarlet Macaw costs more up front and less in the first months.
Is a Scarlet Macaw a sensible choice for you in Palakkad?
You are choosing a 5-15 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A large bird in a Palakkad apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.
What you will pay
Expect ₹298,026 upward, to around ₹298,026. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the records you should insist on. Budget separately for the first year — food, boosters and one unplanned vet visit will each outweigh the purchase over 5-15 Years.
Health and handover
Every Scarlet Macaw is checked, vaccinated and dewormed before listing. Keep the paperwork somewhere you will find it in a year: booster schedules run from the original dates, and a large bird moving to a new vet needs that history intact.
Raising a Scarlet Macaw in Palakkad: local climate
Palakkad is hottest in March, averaging 38°C in the afternoon. A Scarlet Macaw needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.
Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 19°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.
The rainy season runs from June, July and October, and October is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new Scarlet Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are January, May, November and December: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 32 | 36 | 38 | 38 | 34 | 31 | 30 | 30 | 31 | 31 | 30 | 30 |
| Low °C | 19 | 20 | 23 | 25 | 25 | 24 | 24 | 23 | 23 | 23 | 22 | 20 |
| Rain mm | 5 | 10 | 29 | 61 | 116 | 164 | 154 | 134 | 128 | 188 | 120 | 27 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

Care Tips for Scarlet Macaw
Your week with a Scarlet Macaw, reduced to what actually matters.
- Grooming: ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat. You find the tick while it is still nothing.
- Damp: dry the bird properly in the wet months. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.
- Floors: runners over polished granite before it arrives, not after the first slip.
- Food: portion by weight, adjust monthly, no table scraps from day one.
- Balcony: grilles up before the Scarlet Macaw comes home.
