What a Blue & Gold Macaw costs in Idukki
Between ₹130,187 and ₹130,187 covers most placements here. Where yours falls depends on lineage and how old the bird is at handover - an older, fully vaccinated Blue & Gold Macaw costs more up front and less in the first months.
Settling in with children and other pets
Introduce slowly and supervise every early meeting. A family friendly Blue & Gold Macaw is usually good with children, but 'usually' is doing work in that sentence - the first fortnight sets the pattern for 5-15 Years.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Week one: keep the bird to two rooms, same feeding times daily, no visitors. Week two: widen the space, start short outdoor trips once the vaccination schedule allows. Rushing either half is the most common mistake we see with a new Blue & Gold Macaw.
Is a Blue & Gold Macaw a sensible choice for you in Idukki?
Start with your week, not the breed. If you are out of the flat eleven hours a day, a family friendly Blue & Gold Macaw will not fill the gap quietly - it will find something to do and you will not like it. If someone is home, this breed settles into Idukki without much drama.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Balconies need grilles before a Blue & Gold Macaw comes home, not after. Beyond that, apartment life suits this breed well: it wants company more than square footage, and a Idukki flat with people in it beats a large empty house.
Feeding a large bird without guesswork
Skip the table scraps entirely, however hard the bird lobbies. A Blue & Gold Macaw that learns the dining table is a food source will keep asking for 5-15 Years. Set that boundary in week one and you never have to revisit it.
What you will pay
Expect ₹130,187 upward, to around ₹130,187. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the records you should insist on. Budget separately for the first year — food, boosters and one unplanned vet visit will each outweigh the purchase over 5-15 Years.
Health and handover
Every Blue & Gold Macaw is checked, vaccinated and dewormed before listing. Keep the paperwork somewhere you will find it in a year: booster schedules run from the original dates, and a large bird moving to a new vet needs that history intact.
Raising a Blue & Gold Macaw in Idukki: local climate
Summer here peaks in March at about 33°C. That is manageable for a Blue & Gold Macaw: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.
Winters are mild, with January nights around 17°C, so cold is not a concern.
The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new Blue & Gold Macaw bird, the easiest months to arrive are December to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 28 | 31 | 33 | 32 | 28 | 26 | 25 | 25 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 |
| Low °C | 17 | 18 | 20 | 21 | 22 | 21 | 20 | 20 | 20 | 20 | 19 | 18 |
| Rain mm | 12 | 24 | 47 | 107 | 217 | 334 | 291 | 245 | 231 | 312 | 171 | 38 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

Care Tips for Blue & Gold Macaw
A practical checklist for a large bird in a Idukki flat.
- Routine: fixed meals, fixed sleeping spot, one person feeding for the first fortnight.
- Paws: check between the pads after every walk.
- Company: a family friendly breed does badly with eleven empty hours. Arrange a break in the day.
- Neighbours: corridor manners in month one buy goodwill you will need later.
- Vet: registered before you need one, not during an emergency.
