Settling in with children and other pets

Teach the children the rules before the Blue Monk arrives: no disturbing it while eating, no picking it up, and let it come to them. Children who learn that get a bird that seeks them out.

Health records you should insist on

Keep the paperwork somewhere you will find it in a year. Booster schedules run on the original dates, and a small bird moving to a new vet needs that history intact.

Feeding a small bird without guesswork

Match the food to the adult size, not the current one. A small breed grows into its requirement over months, and switching brands abruptly will upset it - phase any change over a week. Fresh water, changed twice daily, matters more than the brand you choose.

Is a Blue Monk a sensible choice for you in Hosdurg?

Start with your week, not the breed. If you are out of the flat eleven hours a day, a family friendly Blue Monk will not fill the gap quietly - it will find something to do and you will not like it. If someone is home, this breed settles into Hosdurg without much drama.

Weather, coat and the Kerala year

The year splits into a dry half and a wet half, and a small bird notices both. the air stays humid through much of the year, so coat and skin care need attention Adjust walk times in the heat and drying routine in the rain, and the Blue Monk will barely register the change.
