We place across Devikulam and the wider Kerala region. If a medium bird does not suit your hours, we will say so — that conversation is free and saves everyone the harder one later.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Balconies need grilles before a African Grey Parrot comes home, not after. Beyond that, apartment life suits this breed well: it wants company more than square footage, and a Devikulam flat with people in it beats a large empty house.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Do not introduce a medium African Grey Parrot to the whole building in week one. Let it learn your flat first. Everything else - lift, lobby, other residents - goes better when the bird already has one place it considers its own.
Settling in with children and other pets
Give the resident pet the higher ground and the first choice of space. A new medium bird entering an established household is the intruder, and letting the existing animal keep its status shortens the adjustment considerably.
Feeding a medium bird without guesswork
Portion by weight and adjust monthly. The African Grey Parrot will tell you it is starving regardless; your vet's target weight is the honest signal. Overfeeding in the first year is the single most common thing we correct.
What a African Grey Parrot costs in Devikulam
The purchase is the small number. Over 5-15 Years, food, boosters, grooming and one unplanned vet visit a year will each outweigh it. Anyone selling you a African Grey Parrot without mentioning that is selling, not advising.
Weather, coat and the Kerala year
moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips For a African Grey Parrot that means grooming is not cosmetic - it is how you catch problems early. Ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat, and you will find the tick or the hot spot while it is still nothing.
What you will pay
Expect ₹67,146 upward, to around ₹67,146. Price tracks documentation and age, so the cheapest listing is usually the one missing the records you should insist on. Budget separately for the first year — food, boosters and one unplanned vet visit will each outweigh the purchase over 5-15 Years.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a African Grey Parrot in Devikulam: local climate
The city sits at about 1,594 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 26°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a African Grey Parrot that it is on the plains.
Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 10°C. A light sweater helps a medium African Grey Parrot on the coldest nights.
The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Keep the cage out of damp corners and change the paper daily.
For a new African Grey Parrot bird, the easiest months to arrive are March to April: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 21 | 25 | 26 | 25 | 22 | 19 | 18 | 19 | 19 | 20 | 20 | 20 |
| Low °C | 10 | 11 | 13 | 15 | 15 | 15 | 14 | 14 | 14 | 14 | 13 | 11 |
| Rain mm | 12 | 24 | 47 | 107 | 217 | 334 | 291 | 245 | 231 | 312 | 171 | 38 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
