Apartment living: what actually matters

Balconies need grilles before a White Bellied Caique comes home, not after. Beyond that, apartment life suits this breed well: it wants company more than square footage, and a Shivajinagar flat with people in it beats a large empty house.

Weather, coat and the Karnataka year

moderate Deccan, and the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds Your practical takeaway: brush more often than the breed guides suggest, keep the bird dry through the wet months, and check between the pads after walks. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.

Is a White Bellied Caique a sensible choice for you in Shivajinagar?

Start with your week, not the breed. If you are out of the flat eleven hours a day, a family friendly White Bellied Caique will not fill the gap quietly - it will find something to do and you will not like it. If someone is home, this breed settles into Shivajinagar without much drama.

Your first fortnight, step by step

Week one: keep the bird to two rooms, same feeding times daily, no visitors. Week two: widen the space, start short outdoor trips once the vaccination schedule allows. Rushing either half is the most common mistake we see with a new White Bellied Caique.

Health records you should insist on

Insist on originals, not photographs. A genuine record for a White Bellied Caique names the vet and carries dates you can verify. It is a two-minute check that separates a documented bird from an undocumented one.
