Weather, coat and the Karnataka year

mild tropical plateau, and the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds Your practical takeaway: brush more often than the breed guides suggest, keep the bird dry through the wet months, and check between the pads after walks. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.

Settling in with children and other pets

Give the resident pet the higher ground and the first choice of space. A new large bird entering an established household is the intruder, and letting the existing animal keep its status shortens the adjustment considerably.

Health records you should insist on

Insist on originals, not photographs. A genuine record for a Scarlet Macaw names the vet and carries dates you can verify. It is a two-minute check that separates a documented bird from an undocumented one.

Your first fortnight, step by step

Set the routine before you set the affection. Fixed meal times, a fixed sleeping spot, and a fixed person doing the feeding for the first fortnight. A Scarlet Macaw reads consistency as safety, and a settled bird learns faster.

Feeding a large bird without guesswork

Match the food to the adult size, not the current one. A large breed grows into its requirement over months, and switching brands abruptly will upset it - phase any change over a week. Fresh water, changed twice daily, matters more than the brand you choose.

You are choosing a 5-15 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A large bird in a Puttenahalli apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.

What you will pay
