What is listed for Chilkur is what we can place. Ask us before you decide: we would rather steer you to a different dog that fits your schedule than sell you the Shih Tzu you asked for and hear about it in six months.
Is a Shih Tzu a sensible choice for you in Chilkur?
Start with your week, not the breed. If you are out of the flat eleven hours a day, a playful Shih Tzu will not fill the gap quietly - it will find something to do and you will not like it. If someone is home, this breed settles into Chilkur without much drama.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Week one: keep the dog to two rooms, same feeding times daily, no visitors. Week two: widen the space, start short outdoor trips once the vaccination schedule allows. Rushing either half is the most common mistake we see with a new Shih Tzu.
Feeding a small dog without guesswork
Portion by weight and adjust monthly. The Shih Tzu will tell you it is starving regardless; your vet's target weight is the honest signal. Overfeeding in the first year is the single most common thing we correct.
Settling in with children and other pets
Introduce slowly and supervise every early meeting. A playful Shih Tzu is usually good with children, but 'usually' is doing work in that sentence - the first fortnight sets the pattern for 10-16 Years.
Weather, coat and the Telangana year
The year splits into a dry half and a wet half, and a small dog notices both. comfortable temperatures for most of the year make routine care straightforward Adjust walk times in the heat and drying routine in the rain, and the Shih Tzu will barely register the change.
What a Shih Tzu costs in Chilkur
The purchase is the small number. Over 10-16 Years, food, boosters, grooming and one unplanned vet visit a year will each outweigh it. Anyone selling you a Shih Tzu without mentioning that is selling, not advising.
Shih Tzu price, and the cost after it
₹24,271 to ₹24,271 for the dog. Then plan a similar amount again for year one. Anyone selling you a Shih Tzu without mentioning that second number is selling rather than advising.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a Shih Tzu in Chilkur: local climate
Chilkur is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to May. A Shih Tzu needs real protection from that because its short muzzle makes panting less effective at shedding heat and its double coat holds heat close to the body: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.
Winters are mild, with December nights around 14°C, so cold is not a concern.
The rainy season runs from July to September, and August is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.
For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to January: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 30 | 33 | 37 | 39 | 40 | 33 | 30 | 29 | 29 | 28 | 28 | 28 |
| Low °C | 14 | 17 | 21 | 24 | 26 | 24 | 22 | 21 | 21 | 19 | 16 | 14 |
| Rain mm | 7 | 5 | 20 | 26 | 30 | 110 | 168 | 184 | 160 | 84 | 13 | 2 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

A practical checklist for a small dog in a Chilkur flat.
- Routine: fixed meals, fixed sleeping spot, one person feeding for the first fortnight.
- Paws: check between the pads after every walk.
- Company: a playful breed does badly with eleven empty hours. Arrange a break in the day.
- Neighbours: corridor manners in month one buy goodwill you will need later.
- Vet: registered before you need one, not during an emergency.
