We place across Coonoor and the wider Tamil Nadu region. If a small dog does not suit your hours, we will say so — that conversation is free and saves everyone the harder one later.
Feeding a small dog without guesswork
Portion by weight and adjust monthly. The Dachshund Puppy will tell you it is starving regardless; your vet's target weight is the honest signal. Overfeeding in the first year is the single most common thing we correct.
Weather, coat and the Tamil Nadu year
moisture in the air can encourage skin and ear issues if grooming slips For a Dachshund Puppy that means grooming is not cosmetic - it is how you catch problems early. Ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat, and you will find the tick or the hot spot while it is still nothing.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Week one: keep the dog to two rooms, same feeding times daily, no visitors. Week two: widen the space, start short outdoor trips once the vaccination schedule allows. Rushing either half is the most common mistake we see with a new Dachshund Puppy.
Settling in with children and other pets
Give the resident pet the higher ground and the first choice of space. A new small dog entering an established household is the intruder, and letting the existing animal keep its status shortens the adjustment considerably.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Balconies need grilles before a Dachshund Puppy comes home, not after. Beyond that, apartment life suits this breed well: it wants company more than square footage, and a Coonoor flat with people in it beats a large empty house.
Is a Dachshund Puppy a sensible choice for you in Coonoor?
Ask yourself who walks it at seven in the morning. That one question decides more Dachshund Puppy placements in Coonoor than price does. If the answer is genuinely nobody, look at a lower-energy breed instead - we will help you do that.
Dachshund Puppy price, and the cost after it
₹15,221 to ₹15,221 for the dog. Then plan a similar amount again for year one. Anyone selling you a Dachshund Puppy without mentioning that second number is selling rather than advising.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a Dachshund in Coonoor: local climate
The city sits at about 1,746 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 28°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Dachshund that it is on the plains.
Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C. A Dachshund has a short, thin coat, so a light sweater helps on the coldest nights.
Most of the year's rain falls in October. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.
For a new Dachshund puppy, the easiest months to arrive are March, April, May, August and September: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 22 | 25 | 28 | 28 | 25 | 21 | 20 | 21 | 21 | 21 | 20 | 20 |
| Low °C | 8 | 10 | 13 | 15 | 15 | 13 | 13 | 13 | 12 | 12 | 11 | 9 |
| Rain mm | 4 | 7 | 26 | 57 | 103 | 123 | 123 | 107 | 112 | 157 | 100 | 24 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

- Floors: runners over polished granite before it arrives, not after the first slip.
- Food: portion by weight, adjust monthly, no table scraps from day one.
- Balcony: grilles up before the Dachshund Puppy comes home.
