What is listed for Kottayam is what we can place. Ask us before you decide: we would rather steer you to a different dog that fits your schedule than sell you the Shih Tzu you asked for and hear about it in six months.
Is a Shih Tzu a sensible choice for you in Kottayam?
You are choosing a 10-16 Years commitment, so be unsentimental for a minute. A small dog in a Kottayam apartment works when the building allows pets, the lift is reliable, and someone can break up the day. Two out of three is usually not enough.
Apartment living: what actually matters
Your neighbours matter more than your floor plan. A bold Shih Tzu that greets the corridor politely buys you goodwill you will need later. Spend the first month on that and the rest of 10-16 Years is easier.
Feeding a small dog without guesswork
Portion by weight and adjust monthly. The Shih Tzu will tell you it is starving regardless; your vet's target weight is the honest signal. Overfeeding in the first year is the single most common thing we correct.
What a Shih Tzu costs in Kottayam
The purchase is the small number. Over 10-16 Years, food, boosters, grooming and one unplanned vet visit a year will each outweigh it. Anyone selling you a Shih Tzu without mentioning that is selling, not advising.
Settling in with children and other pets
Introduce slowly and supervise every early meeting. A bold Shih Tzu is usually good with children, but 'usually' is doing work in that sentence - the first fortnight sets the pattern for 10-16 Years.
Your first fortnight, step by step
Do not introduce a small Shih Tzu to the whole building in week one. Let it learn your flat first. Everything else - lift, lobby, other residents - goes better when the dog already has one place it considers its own.
Shih Tzu price, and the cost after it
₹24,055 to ₹24,055 for the dog. Then plan a similar amount again for year one. Anyone selling you a Shih Tzu without mentioning that second number is selling rather than advising.
Records to insist on
Ask for the vaccination card, the deworming dates and the pre-handover vet note, and read them before you pay. We provide all three. Insist on originals — a genuine record names the vet and carries dates you can verify.
Raising a Shih Tzu in Kottayam: local climate
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 31°C in March, so heat is rarely the problem for a Shih Tzu that it is on the plains.
Winters stay warm, with even January nights around 25°C, so there is no cold season to plan for.
The rainy season runs from May to November, and June is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.
For a new Shih Tzu puppy, the easiest months to arrive are December to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 30 | 31 | 31 | 30 | 30 | 28 | 28 | 27 | 28 | 28 | 29 | 29 |
| Low °C | 25 | 26 | 27 | 28 | 28 | 27 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 | 26 |
| Rain mm | 16 | 36 | 66 | 147 | 296 | 482 | 402 | 329 | 306 | 370 | 201 | 46 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

Care Tips for Shih Tzu | Black Color
Your week with a Shih Tzu, reduced to what actually matters.
- Grooming: ten minutes twice a week, hands through the coat. You find the tick while it is still nothing.
- Damp: dry the dog properly in the wet months. Skin trouble here starts damp and gets ignored.
- Floors: runners over polished granite before it arrives, not after the first slip.
- Food: portion by weight, adjust monthly, no table scraps from day one.
- Balcony: grilles up before the Shih Tzu comes home.
